Union Square Is The Tourist District Of San Francisco

Union Square is THE tourist district of San Francisco, the central, shopping, hotel, and even theatrical district. The pedestrian streets, the shops and the department stores make it the first tourist attraction of the city but also, it is said, of the west coast. Union Square is named after its place, which is bounded by Post, Geary, Powell and Stockton Streets. Drawn in 1901, the square took this name after the demonstrations in support of Union soldiers (ie northerners) who were taking place during the American Civil War.

Where to take a break?

Café de la Presse (352 Grant Avenue). It looks like a real Parisian cafe (30's!) Serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. You can even find international newspapers and magazines, hence the name of the cafe. I recommend breakfast, excellent to start the day. The only little "less" that I would find are the prices but the quality of the dishes is well worth the addition! Some waiters speak French, and you will also find menus in French. Lori's Diner (336 Mason Street). Do you want to go back to America in the 50's? See you at Lori's diner! Flash colors, neon lights, and food typically "diner" (burger, fries, soda, ice cream soda) you're in the right place to spend a fun time. Most ? Breakfast can be served all day, and prices are affordable.

The Cheesecake Factory (251 Geary Street). The dishes served are excellent, and of course, the desserts are cheesecake, delicious! This chain has an excellent value for money, and the dishes are rather rich: sometimes, one for two is enough and it allows to leave room for dessert. Cafe La Taza (470 Post Street). For a quick coffee break or a breakfast / lunch, you absolutely must try this coffee and the Mexican Moccha!
