What to do in Baker Beach

However, because of the torn currents and rough waves that have claimed many lives here, swimming at Baker Beach is not recommended at any time. Right above the beach is Battery Chamberlin, which holds the last "vanishing gun" of its kind on the West Coast. It was one of four weapons installed in lost carriages that hid them from the enemy. They have a range of nine miles and can shoot at two revolutions per minute. At the first full weekend of each month, it comes out of hiding.
Baker Beach is a beach facing west, especially a day use area that closes before sundown in summer.
Baker Beach has no entrance fees and no parking fees. On busy days, parking lots can fill capacity and traffic to the Golden Gate Bridge can make it difficult to get there. You will find a toilet in the parking lot and a nearby picnic table. Alcohol and glass containers are not allowed on the beach.

Baker Beach is a popular nude beach. Naked people live at the end of the beach closer to the bridge, but it is difficult to visit without seeing some naked bodies. If public nudity disturbs you, this might not be the place for you.
