Golden Gate park is the largest park in San Francisco. Largest of 6 hectares that the Central Park of New York, it is one of the favorite places of san Franciscans like tourists. Bordering the district of Haight Ashbury, it extends over 5km long and 800 meters wide. If the construction project dates from 1860, it is completed only 10 years later. In 1875, more than 60,000 trees were planted to cover this vast expanse.
Today there are more than a million. In total, more than 6,000 varieties of plants from all regions of the world coexist there. The public garden is home to several buildings. The most exotic is undoubtedly the Japanese Tea Garden, inaugurated in 1894. You can enjoy a traditional tea in the middle of bonsai, pagodas, small pools and Japanese bridges. The conservatory with flowers is also great. Built in 1878, this greenhouse is one of the largest in the world.
Restored in 1883, it survived the earthquake that hit San Francisco in 1909 and a fire in 1918. Damaged by a storm in 1995, it remained closed to the public until 2003.
